Population & Settlement Introduction

Today in our human geography class, Mr. Schick taught us things that he said would “hurt our brains”. First we looked at the pros and cons of globalization. There were a lot more cons on the chart then I would’ve expected. One of the pros is capitalism. People say that it’s just going to happen and there is no way to stop it. However, even though it benefits many countries, it is in no way beneficial to the poor countries. The theory is that globalization will help the poor countries catch up to the richer countries but it actually makes the poor countries even more poor then they already are. Globalization allows crises to escalate more quickly. In my opinion, even though some countries are suffering, globalization benefits the rest of the world greatly. The next “brain hurting” lesson was a little introduction on population and settlement. It was amazing to see how quickly the population has increased since the 1800s. However, it was a little frightening to think of what will happen when we run out of water.
